Check weights

  • Here's a more detailed explanation: example is our Mack

  • rego: 04FNTK

  • Tare Weight: 9060 kg

This is the weight of a vehicle or trailer when it's empty, including all its fluids and fixed equipment, but without any driver, passengers, luggage, tools or cargo.

  • Gross Vehicle Mass (GVM): 27600 kg

This is the maximum weight a vehicle, including its load, passengers, and fuel, is allowed to weigh  - however  RMS  only copy manufacturers GVM so our Mack maybe 27600 kg GVM but under NSW we can only load up to 22500kg (See General mass PDF bellow.

  • Payload: 22500 (GVM) minus 9060 (Tare) = 13440 Payload This is the maximum load a vehicle can carry, calculated by subtracting the vehicle's kerb weight (or tare weight) from its GVM.

  • Gross Combination Mass (GCM):

This is the maximum weight allowed for a vehicle and its trailer combined, including their loads, passengers, and fuel.

Work and rest requirements

The National Heavy Vehicle legislation regulates driver fatigue for those operating fatigue-regulated heavy vehicles.

It sets maximum work hours and minimum rest periods for drivers, which include heavy trucks over 12 tonnes GVM, truck combinations exceeding 12 tonnes GVM, and buses over4.5 tonnes GVM that seat more than 12 adults.
